Heat Treatments
Ark Racing can offer nitriding and nitrocarburizing which are low temperature, low distortion heat treatments. These treatments are carried out to enhance the surface properties of finished or near-finished
ferrous components. This process may increase the parts resistance to tempering and improve their resistance to corrosion.
Definitions:
Nitriding
A heat-treating process that diffuses nitrogen into the surface of a metal to create a case-hardened surface. These processes are most commonly used on high-carbon, low-alloy steels. They are also used on medium and high-carbon steels, titanium, aluminium and molybdenum.
Nitrocarburizing
A thermally induced chemical process involving the diffusion of carbon, oxygen and nitrogen into a metal's surface to improve surface hardness and wear resistance. Nitrocarburizing is industrially performed in a gas nitriding furnace at temperatures up to 1202°F (650°C).
